This paper aims to propose solutions to improve the effectiveness of hygiene and safety practices
at traditional markets in the Mekong Delta. Primary data to investigate people's behaviors and
perceptions are employed for analysis. The research results reveal that the majority of small
traders and market shoppers have an overview of the current pandemic as well as good
compliance with hygiene and safety practices in general and disease prevention in particular. In
addition, this research also organized group discussions with experts who are market
management boards and local officials, helping the results to have an objective view of the issues
in the wet market. Moreover, the Causal Loop Diagram is used in this research to analyze the
relationship between factors such as wearing a mask, keeping distance, personal health, attitude,
risk of stretching, social distance, cost of illness, and other factors.
