Existentialism had a profound influence on the writing of Southern urban literary writers in the period 1954-1975.  Existentialism is concerned with the inner life and values of man. The article presents manifestatios of existentialism in Nguyen Thi Thuy Vu’s short stories in her compositions has shown existential worries, concerns, and psychological contradictions in the interactive relationship between individual freedom and social responsibility. Human beings exist with the desire to find the meaning of personal freedom and the value of life.
