Rice production is always affected by many constrainst such as climate change, natural disasters and plant pests. Among them, pests of rice grains is main factor affecting directly to total yield and quality of rice, especially fungal pathogens. Curvularia sp. and Nigrospora sp. are two important fungi of seed-borne mycoflora causing discoloration of rice grain. The research was conducted to assess efficacy of aqueous extracts from Eupatorium leaf, leaf and bulb of spring onion, Kalanchoe leaf at the concentrations of 2, 4 and 8% on hyphal growth of Curvularia sp. AG11 and Nigrospora sp.AG08. The results showed that extract from leaf and bulb of spring onion at a concentration of 8% had high effect on inhibiting hyphal growth of Curvularia sp. In addition, leaf and bulb of spring onion at a concentration of 2% showed good efficacy on inhibiting growth of Nigrospora mycelium. These ecofriendly, cost effective, safe plant extracts can, therefore, be used as an economic and valuable alternative for pesticides on controlling discoloration of rice grain.
