Increasing environmental temperature due to climate change is one of the challenges for livestock productivity. The selection of quail lines adapted to different temperatures has been studied with different results, however, the evaluation of growth performance, carcass yield and meat quality as well as their reproduction performance of these adapted quail lines has not been published much. Therefore, two different generations of selective high yielding (H) and low yielding (L) quails adapted to different temperatures were performed with quail as animal models to enhance their growth and reproduction performance. There were two experiments performed to evaluted these parameters. Experiment 1: A total of 294 3rd generation Japanese quails at 15 days old from 6 different lines of quail with different heat tolerance, including at 38oC, 25oC and normal ambient temperature (Et, 32oC) for high and low yielding quails were collected and evaluated. Experiment 2: 103 female laying quails from 6 different heat tolerance lines were used to record the laying rate from 45 days old to 140 days old. There were statistically significant differences in body weight, average daily gain, feed intake and feed conversion ratio among the experimental quail lines (P < 0.05), in which the high yielding lines were better than the low yielding lines. There were no differences among quail lines in carcass yield and meat quality, except for liver weight, a* of thigh and b* of breast meat colours were statistically significant (P < 0.05). There were statistically significant difference in egg laying rate and feed conversion ratio (FCR) among quail lines, in which 38H quail line had the highest laying rate and lowest FCR compared to 25L quail line with lowest laying rate and highest FCR. This preliminary selection result lacks genetic evaluation, but shows that the high yielding heat resistant quail line has the potential to adapt to local farming condition.
