Bitter leaf is plant widely used in folk medicine but little has been studied for its biological effects, in vitro antioxidant activity of the extracts including ethanol; n-hexane; ethyl acetate; water; chloroform; and n-butanol, as determined by DPPH and Fe³⁺ reduction assay. On the DPPH model with the best EC₅₀ value being Ethyl acetate, the EC₅₀ value was 71.88 µg/ml. On the Fe³⁺ reduction test model with the best EC₅₀ value being Ethyl acetate, the EC₅₀ value was 8.4170 µg/ml. Evidently, the plant may be promising as a medicinal plant potential for antioxidant and hepatoprotective bioactivity.
