Ninh Kieu District and Cai Rang District are the most modern socio-economic centers of Can Tho City in particular and the Mekong Delta in general, established under the Government's Decree No. 05/2004/ND-CP. In recent years, especially in 2019 and 2020, along with the socio-economic development of the city, the urbanization process in this area has taken place very quickly and strongly. This has made the land cover change of two central districts complicated and difficult to control, causing certain difficulties for the management here. For this reason, this research was implemented to apply GIS and remote sensing technologies to build land cover status maps for Ninh Kieu District and Cai Rang District in the early 2020 period based on Landsat 8 satellite imagery. The research has initially determined the area value, structure and distribution of the main land cover types in this area during the study period. The results are the basis for giving appropriate solutions and actions in the urban management of Can Tho City.
