The study was conducted to investigate the current status of chemical and antibiotic application in intensive catfish farms in An Giang province, Vietnam. The use of pharmaceuticals in intensive catfish farming was collected by interviewing 30 intensive catfish farming owners in An Giang province. The investigation revealed that there were 29 disinfection products, 19 restoratives and 16 antibiotics used in one culture cycle. The most applied antibiotics belong to Fluoroquinolone and (β)-lactam groups. The origin and dosage of chemicals were not strictly controlled. In addition, the problems associated with the use of chemicals such as lack of knowledge on recommended dose, method of application and non-selective use of chemicals were identified. There were 96,7 of interviewed-farms which were self-diagnosing fish disease and 80% were choosing pharmaceutical drugs.
