Motivation plays a critical role in English language learning and is particularly vital in the development of speaking skills. This study aimed to examine EFL teachers' use and the factors influencing their practices of MS in the Mekong Delta context. Data were collected through four observation sessions with two teachers, six semi-structured interviews, and questionnaires with 54 participants. The findings revealed that EFL teachers in the private sector demonstrated a range of motivational strategies in teaching VSTEP speaking to students learning to reach Level 3 proficiency in VSTEP. This study contributes to the understanding of EFL teachers' use of motivational strategies in teaching speaking skills within the context of VSTEP Level 3 proficiency. The findings offer valuable insights for educators and policymakers, informing the development of effective teaching practices that foster motivation and enhance English language proficiency. Additionally, the study highlights the importance of ongoing professional development opportunities to support teachers in implementing motivational strategies effectively.
