The study was carried out to investigate the presence of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase producing E. coli (ESBL-producing E. coli) isolated from 100 sick chickens in Hau Giang province by the combination disc methods. The results showed that 50% of sick chickens infected ESBL-producing E. coli and they were detected in lungs, livers, muscles and faeces. One hundred and fifty eight ESBL E. coli isolates were selected for the antibiotic susceptibility test to 13 antibiotics by the disc diffusion method. Resistance was most frequently observed to beta-lactams: ampicillin (100%), cefaclor (96.8%) and cefuroxime (93%). Moreover, these isolates resistanted to 3-11 antibiotics with 33 multidrug-resistant types. However, these isolates were still sensitive to amikacin (99.4%) and fosfomycin (97.5%). Forty multidrug-resistant isolates were determinated the presence of bla CTX-M, bla TEM, bla SHV genes with the high rate.
