ZSM-5 is a type of zeolite with a high silicon content and is commonly used in the fields of catalysis, ion exchange, and adsorption. Rice husk ash, a rich natural silica source with a high content of amorphous SiO2, is suitable for the synthesis of ZSM-5. In this study, SiO2 was successfully extracted from rice husk ash and used as a reactant to prepare ZSM-5. The major factors affecting the synthesis of ZSM-5 including the molar ratio of SiO2 / Al2O3, the reaction temperature, and the reaction time were investigated. XRD and SEM analysis results showed that ZSM-5 was successfully synthesized in crystalline structure with an average particle size of 3-5 mm. ZSM-5 is a medium-pore-size zeolite and would have great potential applications in practice.
