This study aimed to evaluate the effect of mineral supplementati on non ruminal characteristics and milk production in lactating dairy goats. Ten dairy goats were selected and divided into two groups of five animals each. Animals received either control (control, 22.81 mEq/100 g DM) or high mineral (treatment, 39.08 mEq/100 g DM). After parturition, milk yield, dry matter intake (DMI) and water intake were recorded every day, and ruminal fluid was collected at 4th and/or 8th weeks (PP-4 and/or PP-8). The results indicated that milk yield and compositions did not differ between groups. Dry matter intake/body weight (DMI/BW) from the animals fed with high mineral supplementation was significantly higher than that fed with control diet at PP-8 (Pcontrol (Pin treatment group, whereas ruminal butyrate concentration was lower in animal fed high mineral supplementation. Propionate molar proportion and average ratio of acetate/propionate were not affected by increased mineral supplementation. The present results indicated that animals fed with mineral supplementation may increase DMI especially at PP-8 due to improving ruminal fermentation and microbial protein synthesis in a short period, while milk production remained unchanged.
