Reading and writing are two important inter-related skills for primary students. Reading helps readers improve comprehension, access cognitive information, accumulate experience and extend their knowledge. Students can use their accumulated knowledge from reading in their speaking and writing. However, in Vietnamese primary schools, integrating teaching literacy has just been discussed recently and teachers face many difficulties in integrating teaching literacy including inadequate teaching facilities, and limited ability to update information. Almost primary children nowadays have good opportunities for literacy through various kinds of books and especially by surfing the Internet by using mobile devices or computers with good Internet connection at home. Teachers, therefore, should exploit online tools to improve primary children’s literacy. This presentation reports the effect of using Webquest on primary school children’s literacy. Fifteen elementary school students at the American Vietnam Primary School in Can Tho city participated in the study. Participants were divided into three groups, namely doing-task group, reporting-on-Webquest group and indoor-classroom group. The study results show that participants’ literacy capacity improved markedly and integrating literacy teaching by Webquest can develop students’ literacy as well as create exciting learning environment for children.
