Study on the effect of Levamisole on haematological and immunological parameters of the striped catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) fingerlings (weighing 25-27 g) were carried-out in hapa net installed in pond. The experiment consists of 4 treatments and lasts for 90 days. These are (i) control (normal feeding); (ii) levamisole added feed (150 mg/kg feed) fed during day 1-14; 30-44 and 60-74; (iii) levamisole added feed (150 mg/kg) fed whole experimental period; and (iv) levamisole added feed (250 mg/kg) fed on the day 1-14; 30-44 and 60-74. Besides sample collection for the analysis of haematological and immunological parameters; the fish at week 4th and 12th were also subjected to the infection of Edwardsiella ictaluri for mortality rate.
The results show that the red blood cell count of the fish was highest (2.4 million cells/mm3) of the treatment fed 150 mg levamisole added feed discontinuously and significantly different in compared to the control after 84 days. Similarly, this treatment also have the highest concentrations of immunological parameters such as NBT in spleen, IG plasma, lysozyme and complement productivity of the fish were 0.39±0.20 mg/mL, 12.4±2.23 mg/mL, 213 U/mL and 12,7 U, respectively;...
