Shrimp production is strongly affected by prevalent risks that result from production, market and financing aspects. However, shrimp farmers in Vietnam have still received a substantial amount of trade credit in the form of deferred payment from their input suppliers. This would mean that there are incentives for the input suppliers to grant trade credit to such risky buyers. The present paper aims to reveal those incentives and find that the amount of trade credit granted to shrimp farmers in Ca Mau depends on the size of input orders (a pulling factor) and the pressure of competition among input suppliers-cum-trade creditors (a pushing factor). Then, the grouping of shrimp farmers into cohesive cooperatives will enhance their access to trade credit as well as other official sources of financing.
