The objectives of this study were (i) to evaluate the efficiency of NPKCaMg fertilizers application on maize growth and yield; (ii) to establish the fertilizer formula for maize on deposited and undeposited alluvial soil. The on farm research has been conducted on 10 farmers′ field on each soil series. The total treatments included (i) fully fertilized plot (NPKCaMg); (ii) nitrogen omission plot; (iii) phosphorus omission plot; (iv) potassium omission plot; (v) calcium omission plot; (vi) magnesium omission plot and (vii) farmers’ fertilizer practice (FFP). Results showed that the all of N, P, K, Ca, Mg application improved plant height and number of leaves in two soil types. However, single N, P, Ca application showed grain yield response on undeposited alluvial soil and N only application responded grain yield on deposited alluvial soil. Yield responses to nutrient application followed the order N>P>K>Ca, Mg for undeposited alluvial soil as well as N>K>Ca>Mg>P for deposited alluvial soil in An Phu. The fertilizer formula for maize was 197 N - 61 P2O5 - 52 K2O - 1204 CaO - 603 MgO and 185 N - 52 P2O5 – 51 K2O - 1153 CaO - 401 MgO on deposited and undeposited alluvial soil, respectively. The fully NPKCaMg application plot increased grain yield incomparison with farmers’ fertilizer practice in two sites. Besides, plant height, plant diameter, number of leaves and maize yield on deposited alluvial soil was higher on undeposited alluvial soil.
