This study investigated gene expressions of the antioxidant enzymes, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and catalase, and of the fatty acid transport proteins, fatty acid transport protein 4, lipoprotein lipase (LPL), and fatty acid translocase (FAT/CD36), and the relationships between the expressions of these genes in slow- growing chickens fed dietary curcuminoids combined with tuna oil. Four hundred eighty 1-day-old mixed-sex Korat chickens were randomly divided into 6 experimental groups with 4 replications per group and 20 chickens per replication. The control group was fed diets supplemented with 4% tuna oil only. The experimental groups were fed basal diets with 4% tuna oil and 200 ppm vitamin E or curcuminoids at 20, 40, 60, or 80 ppm. A completely randomized design with mixed sexes was used. At 84 days, 8 chickens were slaughtered per group. mRNAs were extracted from the breast meat and livers, and the thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) were analyzed. Analysis of variance and correlational analysis were used to analyze significant effects and correlations, respectively. TBARS and mRNA did not significantly differ for any antioxidant enzyme genes.
