This study was performed in Soc Trang Province during June to November, 2015 through interviewing 30 households by using prepared questionnaire. The aim of this study is to evaluate the white leg shrimp culture system integrated with tilapia that confine the use of drugs and chemicals during culture period which consequently oriented the sustainable development and economic efficiency of the white leg shrimp in culture system in the investigated area. The study used two culture density groups of tilapia (A) 4 individual/100 m2 (n=8) and (B) 4-5 individual/100 m2 (n=22). The results of this study showed that the average culture area and shrimp culture density in group A and B was 2.1 and 1.9 ha and 68.8 and 68.0 individual/m2, respectively. The feed conversion ratio (FCR) was 1.2 (group A) and 1.27 (group B). The results obtained in group A and B showed that the period of culture time was 106 and 111 day/crop, shrimp reached an average weight of 96.2 and 93.2 individual/kg, the average survival rate was 70.7% and 84.6%, average yield was 4.6 and 5.9 ton/ha, average cost was 56.3 and 49 thousand VND/kg, average purchase price was 97.6 and 100.5 thousand VND/kg, net income was 41.4 and 51.5 thousand VND/kg, and gross profit ratio was 0.83 and 1.11, respectively. In addition, the total cost of drugs and chemicals used in the culture system was only 1.8% and cost of tilapia was 16.7% of the total variable costs, while such cost was 17% in traditional white leg shrimp culture system. This study evidenced the important role of tilapia in the integrating culture system with white leg shrimp facilitated increasing the culture production, decreasing the cost of using drugs and chemicals and the impacting of the culture system to culture environment as well as increasing the economic effectiveness in producing clean products and sustainable production of white leg shrimp
