Mekong Delta, especially Kien Giang province with a coastal line of 200km and over 100 islands is considered a very potential area for marine fish cage culture. In the recent years, marine fish (Cobia and Groupers) cage culture has been developed rapidly in the region, reached to 2290 cages and 1195 tons by 2014. Cobia fish and groupers cover about 70% and 30%, respectively, of total production. Fish culture is mainly relied on wild-caught seed and trash fish (90-100% of households). For cobia, with stocking density of 5 fish/m3, survival rate of 76.3-83.2% and yield of 21.4-21.8 kg/m3 were reached after 10-12 months of culture. For grouper fish, with stocking density of 25 fish/m3, survival rates of 69,9-76,4% and yields of 18,6-20,9 kg/m3 was obtained after one year. Marine cage culture is very dynamic and promising in the region, however, it is still calling for further improvement in technology and especially production chain, from seed production to farming, processing and exports for sustainable development of the industry.
