The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of glass fiber on engineering properties of hydraulic cement-based mortar (HM). Glass fiber with 0.03 mm diameter and 12 mm length was prepared and used in the HM samples at different quantities of 0, 0.3, 0.6, and 0.9% by weight of total cementitious materials. The engineering properties of the HM samples including compressive strength, bending strength, water absorption, porosity, drying shrinkage, and sulfate resistance were tested. Obtained results indicated that the compressive strength, bending strength, water absorption, and porosity of the mortar increased with increasing glass fiber content. On the other hand, the inclusion of glass fiber was found to have a positive effect on reducing the drying shrinkage of the mortar samples. As the results, the HM samples obtained the compressive strength values of 47-50 MPa, bending strength values of 8.7-9.4 MPa, the water absorption rate of around 9%, and drying shrinkage of below 0.06%. Moreover, the glass-fiber-reinforced HP samples exhibited good sulfate resistance behavior. The results of this study further demonstrated the beneficial application of glass fiber in the production of the HM.
