All columns should be designed with sufficient transverse reinforcement to avoid shear failure because of its critical damage. Previous studies have proved that the column designed with spiral transverse reinforcement shows a better performance than that column designed with conventional transverse reinforcement. However, there are no shear strength assessment models for spiral columns. All prior models were developed to assess the shear strength of conventional columns. In this paper, four previous models including UCSD, Caltrans, Sezen, and Achheim models were used to predict the shear strength of circular columns with single spiral transverse reinforcement. Eleven single circular spiral columns from previous studies were collected and used to validate the applicability of these models. Obtained results indicate that the UCSD model is the most suitable to estimate the shear strength of brittle columns, while both the Sezen and UCSD models are good for shear-flexural columns and flexural columns.
