Nitrogen containing heterocyclic compounds, especially quinazolinones, 1,3,4-oxadiazoles and benzimidazoles, are known to have diverse biological activities and have been considerd as important scaffolds for drug discovery. In this study, a simple six-step synthetic procedure towards hybrid heterocycles containing quinazolinone/1,3,4-oxadiazole/benzimidazole with a thioether linkage has been effectively developed utilizing anthranilamide as the starting material. Based on this procedure, four novel hybrid heterocycles (8a-d) were successfully synthesized in rather good total yield (24–30 %). The structures of these new compounds were fully determined based on spectroscopic data including HR-MS, FT-IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR. The designed synthetic method is simple, effective and capable of applying for large scale synthesis.
