Spirulina sp. was tested to remove nirate and phosphate from wastewater of intensive Pangasianodon hypophthalmus aquaculture. The experiment was designed in 500 L growing cells with three treatments and three replicates for each treatment e.g. wastewater from the P. hypophthalmus (S1), wastewater mixed with 10% Spirulina sp. from stock 85,300 ind/mL (S2) and wastewater filtered and mixed with 10% Spirulina sp. from stock (S3). Concentration of N-NO3 and P-PO4, Spirulina sp. density and biomass were recorded in 13 continuous days. The treatments with Spirulina sp. had the higher density and biomass at the day 2nd which were 25,540 ind/mL and 231.5 mg/L, respectively for S2; and 27,990 ind/mL and 167.7 mg/L for S3, respectively than those of the wastewater treatment S1 which were 3,253 ind/mL and 19.5 mg/L, respectively. Furthermore, the treatments with Spirulina sp. also removed N-NO3 and P-PO4 (85-88%) efficiently than the wastewater treatment which was less than 72% for both N-NO3 and P-PO4. Spirulina sp. can be used to remove N-NO3 and P-PO4 from wastewater of P. hypophthalmus wastewater and its biomass can be collected for other purposes.
