The paper analyses the European Union's import conditions on agricultural products along with Non-tariff Measures like Sanitary and PhytoSanitary (SPS) measures and Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT). It also analyses the crucial rules that nation-states have generally adopted and are aware of. Principally, these measures were formulated and adopted by the nation-states and EU to promote sustainability of the ecosystem simultaneously ensuring public health and sanitation. While these standards are ideal, it has been observed as overstandardized because, over the years, the government and other authoritative bodies have overshot the standards according to their interests. The powerful nation-states also play a key role in influencing the setup of international standards. These factors have posed issues in developing countries which have been analysed especially in the context of Vietnam and its issues on the export of agricultural products both in complying with SPS and TBT measures in major markets like the EU, US and Japan. The impact of these measures has been identified in the exporting countries in procuring control certificates and meeting the elaborated and meticulous sanitary standards and measures. Thus, it becomes challenging for developing nations to follow the standard procedures of developed nations. Hence, North for North, South for South is promoted extensively.
