Mangrove forest belts have a very importatnt role on reducing the impacts of natural disasters in the coastal areas. However, in te last decades, under the pressure of increasing population and mammade disaster, there have been many losses and degradation of mangrove forest belts in Vietnam. As a result, the seashore erosion and human damage are expected to increase due to climate related extreme weather, e.g. tropical storms, high sea waves and strong whirlwind. In oder to build the natural disaster relisience and adptive capacity for coastal communities, mangrove wetland ecosystems developement is considered as long term cost-effective strategy for proverty reduction and biodiversity conservation in Vietnam. This paper reviews and evalutes the mangrove reforestation approarch, implementation and managemnet in Vietnam as a case study.
