Earthworms are invertebrate animals that belong to Oligochaeta of the Annelida phylum. Earthworms play an important role in the sustainability of soil fertility. Earthworms have been widely used as traditional medicine for thousands of years. However, the research on the pharmaceutical effects of earthworms are still under investigation. This study was conducted to identify earthworm collected from Binh Duong province and investigate the antioxidant activity of ethanol extract using ABTS (2,2′- Azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid), DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl), phosphomolybdenum and RP (reducing power) method. Morphological and anatomical of earthworm was displayed and indicated that it is Lampito mauritii Kinberg, 1867. Beside, the results showed that the extract from Lampito mauritii has antioxidant activity in all observe assays. The EC50 (effective concentration) or OD0.5 (optical density) of ABTS, DPPH, phosphomolybdenum and RP method were 0.57 mg/mL, 9.82 mg/mL, 0.78 and 0.19 mg/mL, respectively. In addition, the study result also reported that the ethanol extract from Lampito mauritii containing phenolic substances (74.60 mg/g extract) which is proved antioxidative activity. Data from present results revealed that Lampito mauritii Kinberg, 1867 may be useful animal for further study of antioxidant activity.
