This research examined the current situation of supporting self-directed learning (SDL) for English-majored students at Cantho university (CTU). Data were collected through a survey involving 179 students, 22 lecturers, and 26 administrators. The study aimed to identify the human resources available for facilitationg SDL, the factors supporting SDL for students. The results revealed that lecturers and online social communities were the most effective resources for supporting student SDL. However, the current policies for rewarding and motivating students for SDL proved ineffective. Additionally, students needed further support from businesses and local communities. CTU was recommended to establish close partnerships with organizations and companies that utilize English to create an environment where English-majored students could practice and develop their professional skills.
