From the second half of the nineteenth century, Vietnam became a colony of France. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the trend of fighting for independence in Vietnam had a strong change with the appearance of many ideas of fighting for independence, including Phan Chau Trinh. Phan Chau Trinh is a typical representative of the trend of "non-violent" struggle in Vietnam. He boldly criticized the shortcomings of Vietnamese society at the beginning of the twentieth century, encouraged learning to help the country develop, thereby forming a movement against French rule. Phan Chau Trinh's patriotic ideas in the early twentieth century had a wide influence on Vietnam and he became a great patriot in Vietnam, earning great respect throughout the country.
This article aims to better analyze his patriotic thought in the context of Vietnam in the early twentieth century. Historical documents and historical analysis will shed more light on a typical Vietnamese patriot.
