The study focused on analyzing the factors that affect field-of-study mismatch in the Mekong River Delta (MRD). Field-of-study mismatch is measured at two levels, which are unrelated field-of-study mismatch and slightly related field-of-study mismatch. The study was conducted based on survey data of 1,300 employees working in the provinces/cities in the region. The results from the survey showed that field-of-study mismatch in MRD is quite popular. The proportion of employees facing the field-of-study mismatch is more than 55%. In addition, the results of multinomial logit regression showed that education level, field-of-study, training results, work experience and industry are important factors affecting the likelihood of field-of-study mismatch for employees. Based on these empirical findings, several policy implications for improving the status of job mismatches are proposed.
