The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of irrigation water management for community-based irrigation system in North Vam Nao, An Giang province after 16 years of operation. Research using the methodology: (i) Field surveys, (ii) provincial and district managers interview, the Project Managerial Board staff members Interview, famer household interviews. The results show that People’s participatory management and exploitation of irrigation works are enhanced through the implementation of the State policy on decentralization. In general, the project management, coordination and supervision bodies and mechanisms were logically structured and performed effectively. The structure for community management of the water resources useful and satisfactory of water users (accounted for 90%) of the interviewees. However, structural gender inequalities remain, the members of the project management board were male (accounted for 100%) of project managerial board. Assess the strength, weakness, opportunity, threats to establishment a new Sub-region nearby. In addition, the management capacity and technical skills of weak SrMB and another difficulty in supporting funding for system operations. Therefore, local government and State Water Sectors should continue to support funds for PIM development. In water management, it should be promoted and encouraged the roles of women as a gender equality strategy.
