Microalgae are considered as a natural food for Artemia. This study was conducted to evaluate the potential of the bio-floc technology for Artemia through composition of algae prevailed in the fertilization ponds. The experiment was set up in the earthen ponds (150 m2) at four different salinities (35, 60, 80 and 100 ppt) with 3 replicates for each treatment and lasted 21 days. Tapioca powder combined with chicken manure were used as a carbon source (C:N>10) and applied every 3 days to stimulate bio-floc formation. Results exhibited that algal compositions were 44, 34, 21 and 19 genus at 35, 60, 80 and 100 ppt treatments, respectively, Bacillariophyta was the most dominant genus at all treatments. At salinities of 35 and 60 ppt, the dominant genus were usually Peridinium (Dinophyta), Nitzschia (Bacillariophyta); Nanochloropsis, Tetraselmis (Chlorophyta). While at the higher salinities (80 and 100 ppt), Nitzschia, Chlamydomonas, Nannochloropsis and Tetraselmis were dominant. The microalgal densities fluctuated from 7,093 to 47,589 cells/L. There were no statistically significant in algal density among salinity treatments (p>0.05) during the experimental period, excepted at day 15 and 18 (pArtemia culture as the presence of appropriate algae.
