Tau Vang chicken is known as one of the Vietnamese local backyard breeds with typical characteristics such as yellow skin, good meat quality and disease resistance….However, the growth performance is low compared with commercial breeds. The objective of this study was to analyze the association of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of candidate genes namely Insulin-like Growth Factor-Binding Protein 2(IGFBP2), Insulin (INS), Growth Hormone (GH) and Beta thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH-β) with important economic traits including feed conversion ratio, carcass and meat quality in Tau Vang broilers. A total of 744 broilers of 5-weeks old (346 males and 398 females) from two different lines CTU-BT01 and CTU-LA01 were selected and kept in private cages. During the experiment, they were given a diet containing 16% crude protein and 3.000 ME kcal/kg, produced by GreenFeed Viet Nam Join Stock Company. At 13 weeks of age, all broilers were slaughtered to measure and calculate economic traits. SNPs within those candidate genes were detected by PCR-RFLP technique using primer pairs from previous studies (Lei et al., 2005; Qiu et al., 2006; Nie et al., 2005a; and Nie et al., 2005b). The association between phenotypic data and SNPs was established in a statistical general linear model using the SAS software package 9.1: yijkl = m+ai+bj+gk+ (a*b)ij + (a*g)ik+eijkl (Where yijkl is the traits, μ is overall mean, ai is the effect of genotype (i = 1-3), βj is the effect of sex (j = 1-2), gk is the effect of line (k = 1-5), (a*b)ij is the interaction between genotype and sex, (a*g)ik is the interaction between genotype and line, and eijkl is residual error. The present results indicated that the economic traits in Tau Vang chicken were controlled by a multiple gene complex. Favourable alleles for each trait may be different among breeds. This study also provides innitial genetic information to design SNPs-MAS for Tau Vang chicken with higher performance and quality. Similar work for disease resistance traits in this population are recommended in further studies.
