Sugarcane bagasse is a waste material containing lignocellulose which is annually produced in enormous quantities, especially in Mekong Delta and this will be a serious pollutant source if there is no effective solutions to solve the problem. Therefore, the objective of this study is to utilize the sugarcane bagasse as a medium for culturing Yarrowia lipolytica Po1g to produce lipid. After pretreatment, lignocellulose in bagasse was converted into sugars by hydrolyzing with dilute sulfuric acid. After detoxification, sugarcane bagasse hydrolysate was used as a culture medium for the Y. lipolytica Po1g. The results showed that detoxified sugarcane bagasse hydrolysate gave the highest biomass of 12.07 g/L, compared to D-glucose (10.3 g/L), and D-xylose (8.45 g/L). The highest lipid yield obtained in detoxified sugarcane bagasse hydrolysate with total sugar concentration of 30 g/L was 46.7%.
