The study conducted two field experiments with the aims (i) to evaluate the effect of Sofix 300EC herbicide application on the yield of three varieties comprising G4M, G4C and IT3 in Winter-Spring crop in 2017 - 2018; (ii) to evaluate the treatment of rice straw by waterlogged degradation in the paddy field to G4C yield in 2018 Spring-Summer crop. The results depicted that herbicide application had positive effects on initial weed elimination, increasing the number of tillers by 8.2% (G4C) and 4.7% (IT3), plant height of G4C (10.8 cm) and IT3 (9.1 cm), biomass of G4C by 1.3 ton.ha-1 (9.1%) and G4M 1.53 ton.ha-1 (18.7%) compared with non-herbicide application. The rice yields of G4C were 2.72 ton.ha-1 (non-herbicide) and 3.53 ton.ha-1 (herbicide) higher than that of G4M and IT3 varieties which had less than 0.4 ton.ha-1. The waterlogged rice straw degradation had a significantly negative effect on plant height growth but did not affect tillering rate and rice yield; however, it can be considered as a helpful carbon returning way for improving soil fertility and crop production. G4C shows a potential variety for development in double cropping pattern without herbicides, fertilizers, plant protection application and suitable for treating the waterlogged rice straw in the paddy field.
