Early Mortality Syndrome (EMS) or Acute Hepatopancreatic Necrosis Disease (AHPND)was found to becaused by the bacteriumVibrio parahaemolyticus with the capacity to produce pirA and pirB toxins. By now, it has been shown that other Vibrio spp. are alsoable to acquire the capacity for AHPND induction.Sowhere originally the focus for control of AHPND was on V.parahaemolyticusonly, this now has to shift to the control of vibrios in general.The aim of the current study wasto determine the control of AHPND by probiotics and health boosters in a standardized AHPND challenge model. The results of this laboratory study show that the application of probiotics (PRO-W, PRO-2) and a health booster (S-PAK) might prevent the mortality caused by the bacteriumVibrio parahaemolyticusin a standardized challenge model and have beneficial effects on the vannameipostlarvae as histological signs of hepatopancreas regeneration have been observed.
