The study analyzed the pineapple value chain in Tien Giang Province, which proposed a number of measures to enhance the value-added (VAT) for the pineapple product as well as contribute to improve income for poor farmers who have been producing the pineapple in the local. Research data were collected from 335 actors involved in the pineapple value chain, including seed production base, geography agricultural supplies, traders, stall pineapple, wholesalers, retailers, processing enterprises and support chain actors. The study used the "input" approach for the efficiency of agricultural production of Farrell (1957) and the "output" approach of the value chain of Kaplinsky & Morris (2001), method of linking the value chain of GTZ (2007) and enhancing the market for the Poor (M4P, 2008). The study results showed that (1) there are 5 major market channels for the pineapple value chain in Tien Giang Province. Traders are the “prominent” actor that plays an important role in the consumption of the entire chain; (2) VAT and net VAT are created from the pineapple product that strongly impact to change the income of poor households who are planting pineapple product. The proportion of VAT and net VAT distribution is positively impact on income of poor households planting pineapple in Tien Giang; (3) There are six measures which are proposed to enhance VAT for pineapple product aiming at contributing to improve income for poor households, including: (i) Improving pineapple varieties as well as seed quality and guaranteeing commodity grade products, (ii) Changing in reasonable farming practices, adjusting the input element to enhance VAT products, (iii) enhancing access to market information as well as support program to develop pineapple industry, (iv) improving the accessibility of technological advances, changing the thinking of production, applying of advanced production model, (v) establishing cooperative credit institutions, enhancing support its funding for poor households to plant pineapples, (vi) Developing, implementing the good model of 4 links to stabilize the output market for the poor who have been growing pineapple.
