Self-study plays a very important role in the learning process of students. The management of self-study activities is one of the important contents of the teaching and management process at universities. The article focuses on researching the current situation of managing self-study activities of students at Can Tho University based on the functional management approach including planning, organizing, implementing, directing, checking and supervising activities. students' self-study. We surveyed 59 administrators, 53 lecturers and 453 students of Can Tho University using questionnaires. The results show that the management of self-study activities of students at the University has been carried out regularly and is evaluated quite effectively; however, the level of efficiency is rated lower than the level of performance. The function of testing and evaluating is assessed at a lower level of performance and efficiency than the remaining functions. Managing students' self-study activities is a very important activity at the university, good management of this activity will help improve the quality of training at the university. This study is the basis for giving appropriate measures to improve the management efficiency of students' self-study activities at Can Tho University.
