Study on integrated cultivation of gut weed (Enteromorpha spp.) and spotted scat (scatophagus argus) in brackish water pond was performed at Vinh Hau village, Bac lieu province. Experiment consisted of 3 feeding treatments with 3 replicates. The ponds without gut weed and fish were received pellet feed everyday considered as a control, other two treatments gut weed were maintained in the ponds during culture period and fish were fed pellet feed every 2 days or 3 days. Spotted scat fingerlings with mean initial weight of 1.24 g were stocked at 2 fish m-2 in the 100m2 pond in six months. Results showed that survival of fish was similar among treatments, ranging from 87.5 to 88.8%. Mean individual weight of fish at harvest and fish yields were in the ranges of 5.43-6.97 g and 992-1127 kg ha-1, respectively, where the group received pellet every 2 days had better growth and yield compared to other treatments; there were no statistical differences among treatments (p>0.05). However, feed conversion ratio in the control treatment (1.91) was significantly higher than those received gut weed combined with pellet feed every 2 days or 3 days (0.74-0.96) and the feed cost in these treatments were reduced from 49.7 to 61.4% and cost benefit ratio was considerably higher compared with the control received pellet everyday. Moreover, during culture period the concentrations of TAN and NO2 in the control ponds without gut weed were higher than in the ponds containing gut weed. This approach could improve the use of resources, water quality, the sustainability of the operation and economic efficiency, reduce any impact on the environment, and may also be applied to other aquaculture species.
