ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has severely impacted the global tourism industry, with cities like Can Tho in Vietnam experiencing significant declines in tourist arrivals and revenues. In the face of these challenges, it is crucial to develop strategies for building resilience in Can Tho's tourism industry. This study aims to identify global best practices and case studies to inform the revitalization of Can Tho's tourism industry in a post-pandemic world. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining a comprehensive literature review, case study analysis, and stakeholder interviews to gather insights on resilience-building strategies in the tourism sector. Key global best practices and case studies were identified, with a focus on destinations that have successfully rebounded from crises and developed adaptive and sustainable tourism industries. Results demonstrated that effective resilience-building strategies include fostering public-private partnerships, enhancing crisis preparedness and response, promoting sustainable and community-based tourism, and harnessing digital technologies for marketing and communication. These insights were used to develop a tailored resilience framework for Can Tho, featuring guidelines for implementation and monitoring. In conclusion, this study offers valuable insights for local and regional authorities, tourism businesses, and communities in Can Tho, providing a roadmap for building a more resilient and sustainable tourism industry in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. By learning from global best practices and case studies, Can Tho can successfully navigate the challenges of the post-pandemic era and capitalize on emerging tourism opportunities.
