ABSTRACT

The rapid growth of film tourism has brought significant economic benefits to various destinations worldwide. This research investigates the potential of leveraging cinema to promote sustainable tourism in Vietnam, drawing lessons from other successful film tourism destinations. The study aims to identify effective strategies for capitalizing on film portrayals while minimizing potential adverse impacts on local communities and the environment. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, combining a comprehensive literature review, case studies of global film tourism destinations, and expert interviews with stakeholders in Vietnam's tourism and film industries. The results reveal that effective collaboration between the film and tourism sectors, along with targeted marketing campaigns, can significantly increase destination awareness and attractiveness. Moreover, developing thematic tours and experiences, engaging local communities, and implementing sustainable practices are critical factors in promoting long-term benefits from film tourism. The study also highlights the importance of storytelling and branding in creating unique selling propositions for Vietnam's tourism industry. In conclusion, this research emphasizes the potential of Vietnamese cinema as a catalyst for sustainable tourism growth. By learning from global success stories and adapting these strategies to the local context, Vietnam can foster a thriving film tourism industry while preserving its cultural and natural heritage. Key recommendations include strengthening public-private partnerships, implementing sustainable practices, and enhancing destination branding through cinematic storytelling.
