This study aims to find out the mental wellbeing status of librarians in Vietnam from the mid-COVID-19 time to the new normal to support future policy interventions regarding mental health care for staff in Vietnam’s libraries and information centers. The tools used to serve this aim include the WHO-5 Well Being Index (World Health Organization [WHO], 1998), the Revised Life Orientation Test (LOT-R) (Scheier et al., 1994), and Strahan-Gerbasi’s 1972 short version of the Marlow‐Crowne Social Desirability Scale (Strahan & Gerbasi, 1972). These were put together in a survey designed and administered online to librarians across Vietnam to get their self-rated mental health and optimism levels, controlling for socially desirable responding. The survey shows despite the low mid-COVID mental health (M = 10.37, SD = 5.667), there was a statiscally significant increase in mental health scores in the new normal (M = 14.00, SD = 5.805). Eight one-way between-groups ANOVA tests conducted on a wide range of demographics (geographical area, library type, library size, age, seniority, position, specialization, and qualification) only showed statistically significant differences in mid- and post-COVID mental health scores (with extremely small to small effect sizes) between different age groups, seniority levels, and types of position.
