Climate change (CC) impacts all aspects of human life and production. In Vietnam, CC has severely impacted several areas, communities, and vulnerable social groups, of which the Mekong Delta is the area most strongly affected. Promoting the role of the young generation, including university students, in supporting communities to adapt to CC is urgent. Participated volunteer activities on community development helps students improve their professional and soft skills and creates a reputation for the University. This research will help educational administrators grasp the factors that impact student engagement. A case study of College of Rural Development students at Can Tho University showed that most students had basic knowledge about the causes and impacts of CC. Students also affirmed that CC seriously and comprehensively impacts human life and production. Since then, most students have participated in one/several volunteer activities to improve communities’ awareness about CC. This study explored four factors that impact student participation: students’ academic training program, leadership position, participation fee, and home location.
