Agriculture plays a pivotal role in Benin's economy, employing 70% of the active population and contributing significantly to employment. Despite its importance, the sector's contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) has declined over the years, from 33% in 1995 to 25% in 2016. Livestock, the second most important agricultural activity, contributes 13% to the GDP. However, Benin's agricultural sector is predominantly made up of small, family-type farms that are highly vulnerable to climate variability. To address these challenges, the Beninese government has implemented a Strategic Plan aimed at improving agricultural performance, ensuring food sovereignty, and contributing to economic and social development in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. This study seeks to analyze the current state of Benin's agricultural sector, focusing on the efficiency of government investments, budget allocations, and the alignment of agricultural projects with the needs of beneficiaries. Through content analysis of case studies and articles sourced from Scopus, this research provides valuable insights into the management and organization of Benin's agricultural sector, offering guidance for researchers, policymakers, and civil society actors.
