In recent years, tourism destinations have evolved by utilizing advanced technologies, including virtual reality (VR), to market travel experiences by visually communicating information on landscapes, aesthetics, culture, and entertainment (Choi et al., 2018). The issue posed is whether tourists find this new form of destination marketing appealing. This study aims to explore the interest of Vietnamese tourists in destination marketing through virtual reality. Specifically, it investigates the tourists' experiences with virtual reality (including their experiences with virtual reality advertisements), their knowledge of virtual reality, and their level of interest in virtual reality in tourism. The study collected data through direct surveys from 230 Vietnamese tourists using structured questionnaires. The research findings indicate that the majority of Vietnamese tourists (nearly 86%) have heard of the term Virtual Reality. More than half of the tourists (almost 60%) have watched VR videos/movies, with a significant proportion (47.7%) having viewed advertisements through Virtual Reality. These results suggest a considerable level of interest among tourists in virtual reality advertising. However, the percentage of tourists who have seen virtual reality travel advertisements remains relatively low, indicating that virtual reality advertising has not fully realized its potential. Overall, the knowledge of virtual reality among respondents is average, and the surveyed tourists exhibit a moderate level of interest in VR. These findings suggest that Vietnamese tourists have a notable interest in VR-based promotions, presenting growth potential in the future.
