This study aims to understand the current situation and determine the role of cooperative participation in improving financial efficiency for rice farmers in the Mekong Delta. Descriptive statistics, comparisons, financial indicators, and regression models were employed to analyze the primary data set of 160 observations. This number of observations was collected by a random method including rice farmers in Hau Giang province in the Mekong Delta. Lessons learned from the consumption-linked case study in Indonesia are also included for comparison. Research results show that households participating in cooperatives have better production results than households not participating in cooperatives. In the remaining stages of the production process, receiving support from stakeholders is also more than in the households participating in the cooperative. Based on the research results, the author proposes some relevant solutions to promote linkages between production and consumption with the role of cooperatives as the core in developing countries with strengths in agriculture production such as Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia.
