Superparamagnetic copper ferrite (CuFe2O4) nanoparticles are used as a solid catalyst for the N-arylation reaction of 4-iodotoluene with 1H-pyrrole to form 1-(p-tolyl)-1H-pyrrole as the principal product. High yield was achieved under optimal conditions. The CuFe2O4 catalyst could be facilely separated from the reaction mixture by magnetic decantation and could be reused several times without a significant degradation in catalytic activity. No contribution from homogeneous catalysis of copper species leaching into reaction solution was detected. To our best knowledge, the above coupling reaction was not previously performed under superparamagnetic nanoparticle catalysis
