This chapter was inspired by challenges of top-down instructional approaches, and my own experience related to top-down practices as a student of English for 16 years. Cultural values and behaviors are often described as related to one another. Because culture also informs instructional style, this chapter will explore current challenges of instruction and suggest an instructional program called Dimensions of Learning as a solution, in which cultural factors are investigated more closely. Reading this chapter, teachers of English in the Mekong Delta may find ways to add to their own cultural beliefs about teaching to help students become more satisfied in the learning process.
