This study presents the differences in the shear properties of soils obtained by the laboratory tests and field tests. In this study, the direct shear tests are performed in the field where the soil samples are selected and later on performed in the laboratory. The tests results consolidated at the same vertical stress show that the shear stress obtained in the field is much higher than in the laboratory, Also, the field tests show peak values of shear strength at smaller shear strain than the laboratory tests due. Moreover, the increase in cohesion and a slight decrease in friction angle are found in the field tests compared to the laboratory tests.
