A crystalline porous metal-organic framework MOF-235 was synthesized and characterized by Xray powder diffraction (PXRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS). The MOF-235 was used as heterogeneous catalyst for the coupling reaction of benzimidazole and tetrahydrofurane via oxidation of C–H bond adjacent to an oxygen atom to form 1-(tetrahydrofuran-2-yl)-1Hbenzo[d]imidazole as the principal product. The activity of MOF-235 was showed to be higher than that of other frequently reported MOFs. This material could be recovered and reused several times without a significant degradation in catalytic activity.
