Benzimidazoles and their derivatives play vital role in medical field with many known biological activitives such as antiinflamatory, antimicrobial, antiviral, antidiabetic and anticancer activity. Several benzimidazoles are used in therapy such as Albendazole, Mebendazole, Flubendazole, Fenbendazole, Omeprazole, Lansoprazole, Clofazone. In this study, five N-benzyl-2-pyrrolylbenzimidazoles derivatives have been successfully synthesized in good to excellent yields (70 - 90%) by a simple one-step cyclization of N-benzyl-o-phenylenediamines and pyrrole-2-carboxaldehyde using Na2S2O5 (sodium metabisulfite) in C2H5OH. The structures of these new compounds were fully confirmed by various spectroscopic methods such as MS, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR. Results on the anti-HCV activity evaluation found that two derivatives possessed minor activity while one derivative showed good activity against HCV.
