Modern technologies such as chatbots, artificial intelligence (AI), and robotics have been significantly reshaping the operations of the tourism industry (Tussyadiah, 2020). The use of chatbots in travel planning has become widespread among many tourists, but for Vietnamese tourists, this technology is relatively new, making it important for them to accurately recognize and understand chatbots. This article aims to assess the understanding of chatbots among Vietnamese tourists. According to research findings, the awareness of chatbots among Vietnamese tourists is not notably high, as only 256 out of 721 respondents were familiar with chatbots and proceeded with the survey. However, among these 256 respondents, a significant majority demonstrated a high level of understanding of chatbots, constituting nearly three quarters of the group. This indicates that although access to new technologies may be limited for respondents, it is not impossible for them to comprehend and engage with chatbots when given the opportunity. Furthermore, within the cohort of tourists familiar with chatbots, a larger proportion consists of young people and individuals with higher levels of education, reaffirming the influence of age and education in accessing technological advancements like chatbots. Additionally, the disparity in chatbot awareness between genders was found to be relatively minimal.
